US President Donald Trump made history when he attended the New York Knicks vs. San Antonio Spurs Game 3 of the NBA Finals.

The New York Knicks were already in a strong position after taking a 2-0 lead over the San Antonio Spurs. As a result, most fans expected the Knicks to continue that strong form at home.

However, the Knicks didn’t play like their usual selves, and it was visible in the final score as the Spurs walked away with a 115-111 win at Madison Square Garden.

Landry Shamet explains Game 3 ‘anomaly’

During a recent appearance on The Old Man and The Three podcast, Knicks star Landry Shamet explained why Game 3 of the NBA Finals never felt like a home game.

“We’re going through TSA screenings. We’re staying in a hotel, so now, our home routine is completely thrown off. You’re riding a bus over [to the arena],” Shamet said.

He added, “I remember my level of anxiety that day and I think I felt it on the whole city. Felt it walking out on the street that morning. It felt like Game 3 to me was such an anomaly in that sense.

“It didn’t feel like a home game, but everybody was so uptight.”

The increase in security because of Trump made it difficult for both sides during Game 3. Although the Knicks lost that game, they ultimately became NBA champions after winning their next two matchups.

Landry Shamet is rumored to leave the New York Knicks

After winning the 2026 NBA Championship, the Knicks are already in preparation mode for the next season. The most difficult thing for the Knicks will be to keep the roster intact.

However, according to Shams Charania, the Knicks have already decided to part ways with Shamet and Mitchell Robinson, two key players in their championship run.

The reason? Well, it’s because of Knicks owner James Dolan’s wish to stay below the second apron and not pay the extra luxury tax in the upcoming season.

Still, letting go of Shamet could be disastrous for the Knicks, as he played a crucial role off the bench in many games this past season.
