
Traffic on the Dhalli–Sanjauli Bypass in Shimla was brought to a standstill on Thursday after a massive landslide sent a large volume of debris onto the road.
No loss of life or injuries were reported. Following the landslide, police, district administration and the Public Works Department’s team rushed to the spot to clear the road. Machineries were also deployed and the road was later cleared for one-way traffic.
To avoid inconvenience to the commuters, traffic was diverted to alternative routes.
All people are requested to avoid using the Dhalli-Sanjauli bypass road for the time being and to plan their travel based on alternative routes. Please follow the instructions of the police personnel deployed on the spot.
Shimla Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gaurav Singh said the work of removing the debris from the road is going on and the police are continuously monitoring the traffic movement on the road. He further said that the remaining debris is also being cleared and traffic movement will soon be restored on both sides of the road.
Meanwhile, Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Shimla (Rural), Manjeet Sharma, said the landslide took place near a residential building, which has put the building under threat. He said that buildings under threat have been evacuated, and the total number of buildings that have been affected is being assessed.
