KOTA KINABALU – Lawyers representing Noraidah Lamat, the mother of the late Zara Qairina Mahathir, have denied claims circulating online that the teenager was put into a washing machine, describing them as unfounded speculation.

Lawyers Hamid Ismail and Shahlan Jufri said they were compelled to issue a clarification due to the spread of various videos and photos linked to the case.

“The video featuring a woman alleging that Zara was placed in a washing machine is mere speculation. Our client, Zara’s mother, has never provided such information to anyone.

“We urge the woman in the video provide this information to the police for investigation purposes," they said in a statement.

The lawyers also dismissed a purported chronology being shared online, which claimed that Zara was only taken to Queen Elizabeth I Hospital (HQEI) at 8am on July 16.

“That timeline did not come from our client,” they added.

A video of a woman narrating events surrounding Zara’s death recently went viral, drawing widespread outrage and concern online.

Zara was reported to have fallen from the third floor of a religious school hostel in Papar. She was pronounced dead the following day at HQEI.
