KOTA KINABALU: The Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) has urged the Federal Government to allocate immediate funds for the Southern Link, an alternative power transmission route connecting Sabah’s West and East Coasts.
LDP Information Chief Nicholas Ban said the recent collapse of the Kolopis-Segaliud 275kV tower in Penampang, which caused widespread blackouts, exposed Sabah’s vulnerability in energy distribution.
He stressed the Southern Link is critical for energy security, economic stability, and disaster resilience.
He also commended Sabah Electricity (SE) CEO Datuk Mohd Yaakob Jaafar and his team for swiftly restoring power after outages caused by landslides and heavy rain.
