Unai Emery has revealed Arsenal were beaten by Liverpool in the chase for Fabinho.

The Brazilian signed for Liverpool in the summer of 2018 from Monaco and has now cemented his place in Jurgen Klopp's side.

And Emery says he coveted Fabinho's signature in his first transfer window as Gunners manager.

[Nicolas] Pepe needs time to adapt to the Premier League," said Emery. For example, in France, I loved Fabinho a lot. He was at Monaco and I wanted to sign him for PSG.

When I arrived here [at Arsenal], his name was on the table to try to sign him, but he signed for Liverpool.

The first six months he didn't play, it was adaptation. But now he is amazing and I want the same with Pepe."
