A top DAP leader has brushed aside claims from Islamist party PAS that it’s confident in capturing the state of Penang in the next general election, saying that it reeked of arrogance.
The comment was made by Penang DAP chief Steven Sim, who was responding to a Facebook post by PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari following Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) crushing loss in Negeri Sembilan.
‘PH’s on its last legs’
In the post, Fadlhi wrote that the PH coalition was “on its last legs” and that its days of governance was coming to an end.
He added that PH politicians should prepare themselves to become Opposition members once again when Parliament is dissolved.
“If the BN (Barisan Nasional)-PN formula can be carried into the next general election, every state in Peninsular Malaysia, including Penang, can be won. Therefore, PN and BN leaders should not look back.
“Continue with this winning formula. Do not be swayed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s Hari Raya reconciliation calls. Continue serving professionally under the current government until Parliament is dissolved,” he wrote.
Fadhli also called upon PH politicians to do some “self-reflection” over the public rejecting them in the Negeri Sembilan state election.
Do not blame us by suggesting that voters have been misled by racial sentiments. Do you really think the people are not intelligent?” he added.
‘Let them be arrogant’
When asked by reporters what was his response to Fadhli’s statement, Sim had this to say:
“My answer is simple. They are winning now. Yes, let them be confident because they are winning at the moment. They have become arrogant and conceited, and so they are making arrogant statement.
“Let them remain with their arrogance. Penang DAP and Penang Pakatan Harapan will continue working hard to safeguard and defend the state of Penang, as well as every DAP and Pakatan Harapan seat,” he said as quoted by NST.
PH suffered its second consecutive loss at the ballot box after stronghold seats were lost to its bitter rivals at Negeri Sembilan.
Among the biggest casualty as Transport Minister Anthony Loke, who lost his Chennah seat after being at the helm for 22 years.
