Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher could not help but notice Harry Kane having lost his voice after England’s dramatic win over Mexico in the World Cup 2026 last 16.
Kane scored the penalty that ultimately proved the difference between the two sides inside the Estadio Azteca, helping the Three Lions seal a sensational 3-2 victory.
Though Jude Bellingham’s two goals certainly cannot and will not be forgotten, it was Kane’s spot-kick that saw Thomas Tuchel’s team progress into the quarter-finals.
A well-taken penalty under intense pressure put 10-man England 3-1 up in the Mexican capital and while the hosts did pull one back, they could not find another.
In brilliant footage that quickly went viral, Kane lost his voice after singing towards England fans after they beat Mexico and Gallagher has reacted.
Gallagher tells Kane that singing is hard work
The England team, of course, have adopted the 1995 Oasis megahit Wonderwall as their anthem for this year’s tournament.
Indeed, England players sing Wonderwall after World Cup games and the sight of the team belting out the iconic words penned by Liam’s brother Noel over 30 years ago now will live long in the memory.
Kane joined his teammates to do so again after the Mexico game and Gallagher took to social media platform X after it was clear that the England skipper had lost his voice.
The rock and roll legend wrote: “It’s hard work that singing Harry Kane cmon ENGLAND cmon WONDERWALL.”
Scenes like this will only continue the deeper England go in this World Cup. With all due respect to quarter-final opponents Norway – who clearly boast a striker on at least Kane’s level in the form of Erling Haaland – they have a fantastic chance of making the final four.
Nothing has been achieved yet but more renditions of Wonderwall really do not feel out of the question.
