Liverpool hero John Aldridge says Darwin Nunez deserves to start their next game.

Nunez came off the bench to score twice and win Sunday's game at Newcastle for the Reds.

Aldridge wrote for the Liverpool Echo: "For Darwin Nunez to come on and do what he did, we have been waiting for that. I know he got that in his locker, I've said it in my columns before, and I am really pleased for him. Both finishes were outrageously good and you could see what it meant to him.

"The question now for Jurgen Klopp will be how he gets Nunez in the team on a more consistent basis. We have got six forwards, including Ben Doak, who need to score goals to stay in the team. That's the way it has always been in football: the pressure is on them to deliver.

"With Nunez, it is like putting a greyhound in a trap and keeping him in there until he is running because he is so desperate to get on and show what he can do.

"All the strikers we have click when they're playing, but there is going to be a go-to three at some stage. Who is going to score you the most goals out of the attackers? Salah might reach 30, I think Nunez could get the same. Jota could manage 25, Gakpo 20 and Diaz 15. The manager has to find the best variation while still having options on the bench with 30 minutes to go in games.

"Nunez won us the points at St James' Park so, for me, he is the first name on the teamsheet next week against Aston Villa. When you know you can score and your confidence is high, you can go on a serious run - just ask my mates Ian Rush and Robbie Fowler."
