Liverpool have surprisingly decided against appointing Paul Mitchell as their new sporting director in the summer.

The Reds are losing Julian Ward from that position, as he looks to move on for a new challenge.

However, many expected Mitchell to take over and assist manager Jurgen Klopp in revamping their squad.

However, The Telegraph states that Mitchell will not be the Ward replacement, as the club may go for Eintracht Frankfurt sporting director Markus Krosche.

Sam Wallace of the Telegraph wrote: "The question being asked is what Klopp might do to rebuild the team that enjoyed such success between 2017 and 2022, and more pertinently for Liverpool's owners Fenway Sports Group, where the money comes from to do it.

"The club is without a sporting director having seen Michael Edwards' complete his year's notice last season, and then his successor Julian Ward quit six months later. They have decided against appointing Paul Mitchell, who holds a similar role at Monaco and has worked at Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur among others."
