The court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Pavleen Singh has issued a notice to Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu for remaining absent during the hearing of a criminal trial without any prior intimation. The court has directed him to appear on June 8.
The court has also issued notice for appearance to former Senior Deputy Mayor Sham Sunder Malhotra, as he was also absent from the court proceedings.
Bittu, along with former Punjab Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu, former Senior Deputy Mayor Sham Sunder Malhotra and District Congress Committee (Urban) President Sanjay Talwar, was booked in a case of the locking of the gate of a local Municipal Corporation office and obstructing a public servant from performing official duty.
The Division No. 1 police had registered a case against Bittu, Bharat Bhushan Ashu, Sanjay Talwar, Sham Sunder Malhotra and around 60 others on the statement of Amit Kumar, a gateman posted at the Municipal Corporation’s Zone-A office. The case was registered under Sections 353, 186 and 149 of the Indian Penal Code in March 2024.
According to the complainant, he was on duty at the main gate of the Municipal Corporation office when the protesters allegedly pushed him and entered the premises.
It was further alleged that the protesters locked the office gate and prevented officials as well as members of the public from entering the office.
