Lorraine Kelly shares update after show pulled off air over disruption: ‘It was a bit weird’

Lorraine Kelly has spoken out about the technical disruption that led to her daytime chat show Lorraine being pulled from ITV’s schedule yesterday (Wednesday 4 November).

This Morning was also cancelled for the day, following a power outage at the studio where Lorraine and various other ITV series are filmed. Programming has since returned to normal, with Lorraine back on the air by Thursday.

“I don’t think it was just our studio that lost power, there was quite a few places in Covent Garden, where our studio is, but we got it fixed so we are back tomorrow,” said Kelly.

The Scottish presenter was interviewed by The Sun at the gala night for the Devil Wears Prada musical on Wednesday.

Kelly, 66, explained: “I was on my way to work and they called me and they said, ‘You may want to turn your car back round again and drive back because all the power’s gone.’”

“It was fine as we had the prerecorded show in the bag, all things like that are covered. But it was just a bit weird as I had to come into London anyway as I was doing a photoshoot and I was going out tonight.”

ITV issued a statement following the disruption yesterday, stating that the disruption was due to “a power cut overnight in the wider area where our Covent Garden studio is based”.

As well as Lorraine and This Morning, the outage also affected the chat show Loose Women, which was replaced by an episode of Tipping Point: Best Ever Finals.

Normal programming was able to resume by 2pm.

In a video shared with Instagram followers yesterday, Kelly described the cancellation as “a bit of a shame”, noting that she had been set to interview Sharleen Spiteri from the rock band Texas.

“But we shall reschedule, and it'll all be fine,” she added.

Power outages have been a prominent point of discussion in the news lately, amid concerns that the UK could be facing an increase in blackouts due to gas supplies affecting power stations.

Lorraine airs weekdays on ITV at 9.30am, and runs for half an hour – with the episode length having been reduced from its traditional hour-long slot last year amid wider budget cuts at ITV.
