The clip, said to feature tourists from China, showed a man down on one knee delivering a lengthy speech before finally popping the question against the iconic golden horizon.
Commenters on TikTok had a field day, joking about the unusually long wait before the woman said “yes” to loud cheers from friends and beachgoers.
The user who shared the clip on 19 August, under the handle @abgsur_bestpakej, said the original recording lasted three minutes before being trimmed for posting.
Tanjung Aru Beach, famed for its dazzling sunsets, proved a fitting stage for the moment, with the video garnering more than 8,000 likes and 3,700 shares.
