MANILA, Philippines — The low pressure area (LPA) outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) has intensified into a tropical depression, the state-run weather agency said on Tuesday.

Weather specialist John Manalo of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the weather disturbance was estimated to be some 1, 325 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas (outside PAR).

Pagasa maintained that the tropical depression would not be directly affecting the weather conditions in the country as it was also not expected to enter PAR.

However, its trough or extension is being experienced over Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Caraga, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi at which cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms would prevail.

Other parts of the archipelago, including Metro Manila, have been affected by the northeast monsoon or "amihan" which brings partly cloudy to overcast skies with isolated light rains in 24 hours, the national weather bureau said.
