MANILA, Philippines – The tropical depression outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) has developed into a tropical storm with an international name ‘Nuri,’ the state-run weather agency said on Wednesday.

Nathaniel Servando, Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Service Administration (Pagasa) chief, maintained that Nuri has a slim chance to enter PAR and would not have direct effect in the weather conditions in the country.

But the trough or extension of Nuri has already been affecting Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Davao Oriental      at which cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms     would prevail, Servando said.

Flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains would be possible in these areas, the Pagasa chief warned.

Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon locally known as ‘amihan,’ would be experienced over Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, and Aurora where overcast skies with light rains would occur in 24 hours, the national weather bureau said.

It said that the same weather system would be likely over Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon, and Visayas at which partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains would be possible.

The rest of Mindanao, on one hand, would be experiencing partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms owing to the effect of the localized thunderstorms, Pagasa’s 5 a.m. advisory said.
