LRTA, Villar Group sign deal for Las Piñas Station lots

THE Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) has signed an agreement with the Villar Group covering seven properties needed to build the Las Piñas Station of the LRT Line 1 Cavite Extension.

LRTA Administrator Hernando Cabrera said six of the seven lots would be donated to the government, while the remaining property would be covered by a right-of-way agreement.

Deeds of donation for two properties have already been signed, although the transfer remains subject to the completion of title and other documentary requirements. Two other properties are awaiting release from a local bank.

Cabrera said the properties were expected to be released within this month.

Under the contract, the LRTA is expected to secure access to five of the seven properties. Access to the remaining lots will depend on the completion of title documentation and the release of the mortgaged properties.

The deal also provides for the issuance of a permit allowing the LRTA to enter the properties after a prescribed 30-day period.

“By Oct. 11, we will have the right to enter,” Cabrera said.

The agreement marks a key step toward resolving the remaining right-of-way requirements for the Las Piñas Station and advancing the completion of the LRT-1 Cavite Extension.

The LRTA has committed to completing the entire extension before the end of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s term in 2028.

Phase 1, which is already operational, connects Baclaran Station in Pasay City to Dr. Santos Station in Parañaque City. It covers five new stations: Redemptorist-Aseana, MIA Road, PITX, Ninoy Aquino Avenue and Dr. Santos.

Phases 2 and 3 will extend the railway farther south through three stations that have yet to be built: Las Piñas, Zapote and Niog.
