The police registered cases against two dairy operators on Thursday for alleged illegal dumping of waste and contaminated water along the Buddha Nullah banks, said officials.

The case at the Division Number 7 police station comes after a written complaint and investigation report submitted by senior officials of the Ludhiana Urban Water and Wastewater Management Limited.

On June 2, the management body’s Zone B assistant corporation engineer lodged the complaint with the police, highlighting violations by dairies situated near the river.

According to the complaint, several dairy units were flouting environmental norms by discharging polluted wastewater and cow dung into the effluent treatment plant (ETP) drain.

During inspections, officials found glaring negligence at two prominent dairy units.

Investigators confirmed untreated hazardous waste from the establishments was being released into the drain, causing severe environmental damage and contaminating local water sources.

The police registered the case after an initial investigation that verified the complainant’s allegations.
