A man was left devastated upon discovering that his wife had cheated on him despite years of him doing his best to love and care for her.
His painful story was shared in an anonymous confession, where he shared how his seemingly stable marriage imploded in the blink of an eye after stumbling upon a text message.
Did his best to make wife happy
In the confession, the man wrote that he and his wife, who was 10 years younger than him, had a fairly happy relationship and this led to them tying the knot.
However, he noted that once children came into the picture, family life became increasingly stressful for him and his wife as he was working hard on building his career, while she cared for the kids.
“Throughout our relationship, whenever she wanted to eat or do something, I would try my best to fulfil her requests, no matter how busy I was.
“If she wanted to go drinking or clubbing with her female friends, I was even willing to take leave from work and stay home to look after the kids,” he wrote.
The OP also wrote that when their marriage reached its seventh anniversary, he joked with his wife saying that they would survive the “seven year itch”, an idiom suggesting that marriages tend to fall apart around the seven-year mark.
‘Am I better in bed than him?’
On one particular day, the OP said his wife kept finding all sorts of reasons under the sun to go out drinking with friends.
But when she came home that night, he noticed a shift in her facial expression and observed that she immediately went to bed after showering without showing signs of affections, which was unlike her to do so.
“After she fell asleep, her phone suddenly rang. At first, I thought that if someone was messaging her in the middle of the night, it might be something urgent.
But what I saw was a message from another man, who wrote: ‘Am I better in bed than him?’
“At that moment, I felt as though my world had come crashing down.”
Confrontation
The following morning, the OP confronted his wife over the text message and she confessed to everything.
However, she claimed she had no real feelings for the other man and that she fell into his arms in a moment of weakness as she wanted to escape from a life of being a housewife and a mother.
She also added that she had no intentions of leaving the OP, leaving him extremely conflicted and unsure over what to do.
“We have been together for so many years and have four children. But now, I find it difficult to accept the fact that I trusted her so much, only to be repaid like this.
“I don’t know whether she really wanted some excitement in her life, or whether there had been problems in our marriage all along that I simply failed to notice.
“Should I forgive my wife and move on, or should I just end it? I really don’t know what to do,” he said.
