A Malaysian man says his daily commute has left him so tired that he has thought about quitting his job, despite recently earning a five figure salary.
The 32 year old father of two shared on Threads that he travels 180km to and from work by motorcycle each day. He said he has kept up the routine for nearly a year.
They initially lived together near KL
According to the man, he and his wife lived in Kuala Lumpur when they first got married. She later wanted to return to her hometown to be closer to her family, while he stayed near KL for work.
He said they had already rented out a room in their previous home to save money. When his wife later wanted them to live together again, he bought a house near her family.
But the move meant a long journey to his workplace. He bought a motorcycle for the daily commute after, he said, his wife told him she did not want to stay home alone.
He says he needs a break from the commute
The man said he had asked whether he could occasionally stay at a friend’s or his brother’s place, or at a budget hotel, when he felt too tired to travel home. According to him, his wife was unhappy with the idea.
He said the strain has made him consider leaving his job, even though his income helps cover the family’s commitments and debts.
“I’ve just started earning a five figure salary and I’m already paying for everything, but somehow it still isn’t enough,” he wrote.
