A Malaysian man is being praised online after reportedly breaking through his neighbour’s fence with his bare hands to rescue an elderly couple trapped in a house fire.

The incident was shared by social activist Kuan Chee Heng, better known as Uncle Kentang, on his Facebook page.
Broke through fence to reach trapped couple
According to Uncle Kentang, the fire happened around two weeks ago and destroyed four houses.
During the incident, a man identified as Harvinder allegedly forced his way through the back fence of his neighbour’s home in order to rescue an elderly Chinese couple trapped inside the burning house.
Although the neighbours reportedly “rarely talk” despite living back to back, Uncle Kentang said Harvinder did not hesitate to help when he saw the fire.
He added that the elderly woman could not walk, making it nearly impossible for her to escape on her own.
Harvinder then reportedly carried both the husband and wife out to safety.

Not many will dare to do what Harvinder did. We do not know where his strength came from,” Uncle Kentang wrote.
Bedridden OKU son did not survive
While the elderly couple managed to escape, their bedridden OKU son unfortunately died in the fire.
According to Uncle Kentang, the couple’s other children were later at the mortuary handling matters related to their brother’s death.
Sheltered elderly couple after rescue
After rescuing the couple, Harvinder and his family reportedly took them into their home temporarily.
Uncle Kentang said the family also bought bread and drinks for the elderly couple while helping calm them down after the traumatic incident.

The couple was later moved to a hotel for temporary shelter before being cared for by their children.
Uncle Kentang says Harvinder deserves recognition
In his Facebook post, Uncle Kentang expressed disappointment that Harvinder’s actions had not received wider attention.
He also asked netizens whether Harvinder should receive a “Malaysia Kind Hearts Award” for his bravery and heroic actions.

He is really our Malaysia hero,” he wrote.
