A Malaysian man claims an e-hailing driver refused his ride and demanded extra payment due to luggage, sparking debate online.
A local man recently alleged that an e-hailing driver refused to take him to his destination due to the amount of luggage he was carrying.
In a post shared on Threads, the man claimed that the driver arrived at the pick-up point in a Honda City before declining the ride and asking him and his companion to book another vehicle instead.
Images attached to the post showed the pair carrying two backpacks and two medium-sized suitcases.
“He asked for an extra RM20 for the luggage, which I refused to pay,” the man alleged.
He also pointed out that the Honda City should have been able to accommodate both the passengers and their luggage, given the size of the vehicle and the fact that it is a four-seater.
Netizens sympathised with the passenger, with several sharing similar experiences involving other e-hailing drivers.
“Those bags can actually fit into a Perodua Myvi. Nowadays, some drivers are behaving like the taxi drivers they replaced. Back then, I rarely heard of such issues,” one user commented.
“Even if his car couldn’t fit the luggage, he shouldn’t be asking for extra money,” another remarked.
“One lesson I’ve learnt is to avoid booking e-hailing rides when travelling to or from the airport, because this kind of attitude tends to happen,” another user advised.
