An argument over a handphone that wasn’t returned on time led to a 25-year-old man getting fatally stabbed with a machete.
According to China Press and NST, the incident took place on Jalan Mohd Akhir, Kampung Sungai Udang in Melaka at around 8.30pm yesterday (Mar 11).
Verbal fight escalates into violence
According to Central Melaka district police chief Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit, he said the 44-year-old suspect had given his handphone to the victim a week before.
When the suspect returned to retrieve his belongings, he got into an argument with the victim and stabbed him with a machete.
The victim was later found in front of his house with three stab wounds to the chest.
Tried to hide inside car
After the stabbing, the suspect fled the scene and was chased by the victim’s brother for approximately 300 metres near a row of shop houses in Pekan Sungai Udang.
To avoid getting caught, the suspect allegedly broke into a civilian’s car to hide. However, he was apprehended by several members of the public.
Patit said investigations found that both the suspect and victim had previous records related to criminal and drug offences.
Police are investigating the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
