A QUARREL over a mobile phone ended in tragedy last night when a 25-year-old man was stabbed multiple times with a parang on the veranda of his home in Jalan Mohd Akhir, Kampung Sungai Udang.

The Central Melaka District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit, said the incident occurred around 8.30 pm, with the victim believed to have been attacked by a 44-year-old man known to him.

“The victim was found in front of his house with at least three stab wounds to his left chest,” Christopher Patit said.

Initial investigations revealed that the suspect had handed over a mobile phone to the victim the previous week but returned later to retrieve his belongings.

The meeting, however, escalated into a physical confrontation before the suspect attacked the victim with a parang.

“The suspect panicked and attempted to flee but was pursued by the victim’s brother for approximately 300 metres near the row of shop houses in Pekan Sungai Udang,” he added.

The suspect reportedly broke into a private vehicle to hide before being apprehended by authorities.

“Investigations also found that both the victim and the suspect had previous records related to criminal and drug offences. This case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder,” Christopher Patit confirmed.

Earlier, images of the victim lying on the ground after the attack circulated online, along with a 2-minute 51-second video showing the suspect being detained by members of the public after attempting to hide in a car. - March 12, 2026
