M’sian Woman Sleeps in MRT After Leaving Home At 6am For Work, Worries Others Will Judge Her | WeirdKaya

Getting a seat on the MRT during the morning rush can sometimes feel like winning a small lottery.

But for one Malaysian woman, finally getting to sit down also comes with a little guilt.

She recently shared that she often falls asleep during her daily MRT commute to work, even when there are other passengers standing nearby.

The reason, she explained, is much simpler than people might think.

Leaves home at around 6am every day

The woman said she travels from Sungai Buloh to UPM for work, with her journey taking close to an hour on the MRT alone.

She said she leaves home at around 6am every day and has to take the KTM first before continuing her journey on the MRT. By the time she finally gets a seat, exhaustion sometimes takes over.

However, she admitted that she occasionally wakes up to find elderly passengers, pregnant women or others who may need the seat standing in front of her.

That made her wonder whether people might think she was deliberately sleeping to avoid giving up her seat.

‘That one hour is probably the only time I get to rest’

She later clarified that she was not refusing to give her seat to others or deliberately ignoring them.

I just genuinely tired and that one hour is probably the only time I get to rest before I reach work.”

She added that whenever she managed to get a seat, her body would sometimes simply “auto shutdown”.

“So if you see me asleep inside the MRT, sorry,” she wrote, adding that she was not intentionally pretending not to notice people standing around her.

‘Get your rest’

Her post quickly resonated with other commuters who knew exactly how draining a long journey to work could be.

Rather than criticising her, many commenters told her not to feel guilty about sleeping.

Another said that when they saw someone sleeping on public transport, their first thought was usually that the person must be extremely tired.

Another commenter said there was nothing wrong with sleeping, as long as the passenger was not deliberately pretending to be asleep just to avoid offering the seat to someone else.
