When it comes to marriage, love may be important, but questions about money, housing and where a couple will build their future can be just as difficult to ignore.
One Malaysian woman recently found herself facing this dilemma after a Pakistani man who had pursued her for years expressed his wish to marry her.
Although she said their relationship was going well, she remained uncertain because the pair appeared to have different ideas about their future together.
Asked about his plans after marriage
Sharing her concerns on Threads, the woman said she had considered accepting his proposal and asked whether he had a car and a home for them to live in after marriage.

According to her, the man told her that while he was not financially well off in Malaysia, he owned a house in Pakistan and could buy a car there.
However, the answer did little to reassure her as she wanted to continue living in Malaysia after getting married.
“The problem is that I only want to live in this country. How can I feel confident when he finds it difficult to show effort here?” she wrote.
She added that she did not want to take the risk of entering a marriage without a clear plan, only to find her future left uncertain.
Wants him to build a life in Malaysia
The woman later explained that the man had been pursuing her for years, but she had repeatedly turned him down as she did not feel he was able to provide the stable future she was looking for.

She stressed that she was seeking opinions and experiences from others before making such a major decision.
She also claimed that the man originally came to Malaysia for work and did not intend to settle here permanently.
While he hoped to bring her back to Pakistan after marriage, she remained firm about not wanting to relocate.
“I have already given him a clear condition. If he truly wants to marry me, he must live in Malaysia,” she said.
Post sparks mixed reactions
Her sharing drew mixed responses from netizens, with some suggesting that she should be prepared to move to Pakistan if the pair eventually got married.
Responding to the comments, the woman maintained that it was reasonable for her to look for a life partner who could offer the comfortable and stable married life she wanted.
Ultimately, her dilemma shows that marriage is not only about feelings. Both partners also need to agree on practical matters such as finances, housing and which country they plan to call home.
