Malacañang suspends work, classes in NCR, 16 provinces due to persistent monsoon rains

MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang announced the suspension of work in government and classes in public and private schools in Metro Manila and 16 other provinces for Friday afternoon due to persistent monsoon rains or "habagat."

The suspension, which started at 1 p.m., is covered under Memorandum Circular 132 and will be enforced in the National Capital Region, Abra, Benguet, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Bataan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac, Zambales, Batangas, Cavite, Rizal, Oriental Mindoro, and Occidental Mindoro.

The circular also noted that local chief executives in provinces not mentioned may also suspend work or classes.

For those in the private sector, their employers have the discretion to suspend work or adopt alternative work arrangements.
