KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 31 — Today’s 69th National Day celebrations served as a proud stage for Malaysia’s sports heroes to express their patriotism and reaffirm their dedication to carrying the Jalur Gemilang on the international stage.
National men’s doubles badminton player Aaron Chia said the Jalur Gemilang remains a source of pride that accompanies him in every international competition.
“Proud to be a Malaysian. We bring it along with us to all over the world with our Jalur Gemilang. Fight all the way with it and make it proud,” he said in a Facebook post today.
National squash legend Datuk Nicol David also expressed immense pride in being Malaysian and having had the opportunity to compete for the nation.
“Always the proudest to be a Malaysian and competing for my country. I believe that all Malaysians are powerful and have the potential to be the best in the world,” she shared on Facebook.
National track cycling star Datuk Mohd Azizulhasni Awang reminded that bringing glory to Malaysia is a shared responsibility embraced by all citizens, not just athletes.
He said an athlete’s journey to raise the nation’s profile requires great personal sacrifice, including time away from family, loss of comfort, physical strain, and tears.
“Every time I put on the Malaysian jersey and stand behind the starting line, I know all those sacrifices are worth it. Because I am not racing just for myself. I am fighting for my beloved Malaysia!” he posted on Instagram.
Azizulhasni urged all Malaysians, wherever they may be, to keep striving for the country.
“Keep fighting for our homeland, Malaysia. Merdeka! Merdeka! Merdeka!” he urged. — Bernama
