A Malaysian entrepreneur is sharing an important lesson he learnt from a street vendor that has left him contemplating his choices in life.

Magindren Kuppusamy took to his Facebook page to share how a tissue seller at Bukit Bintang had taught him that having no expectations for the future can make life peaceful.

He wrote, “A man who has been selling tissues by the roadside in Bukit Bintang for 30 years. Same street. Same traffic. Same uncertainty. Yet, look at him, calm, focused, with a quiet smile. No bitterness. No complaint written on his face. I approached him, expecting a story of struggle. Instead, he gave me something deeper.”

“He said he doesn’t have dreams and doesn’t worry about tomorrow. That line hit hard.”

“Because most of us, especially people like me running businesses, building companies, thinking about expansions, staff, cash flow and reputation, we live in tomorrow. We carry tomorrow on our shoulders every day. Growth plans. Market risks. Competition. Responsibilities.”

Acceptance, no expectations

Magindren went on to explain how the man survives day by day yet sleeps peacefully.

“It’s not that he lacks ambitions; it’s that he has mastered acceptance. There’s a kind of freedom in not negotiating with the future. No expectations. No comparisons. No chasing validation. Just today’s effort, today’s meal, today’s smile.”

“I walked away with two packets of tissue and a heavier mind.”

“That contrast says more about life than any motivational seminar ever could. Maybe happiness is not about having nothing. Maybe it’s about wanting less. Maybe it’s about not letting tomorrow steal today. And the fact that this moment stayed with me, it means I’m still reflecting, still learning, still human. Sometimes, the richest lessons come from the simplest people on the street,” he added.
