Malaysian Life Sciences Company Launches Programme to Support Clinician-Led Research

Malaysian life sciences company, BREGO Life Sciences has launched the Powering Mobility: RISE Programme, an investigator-led initiative intended to help medical officers and healthcare professionals develop research and case studies in joint and nerve health.

“A Malaysian study of specialists at three government hospitals found that although all respondents believed research benefited patients and society, only 44.9% were actively involved in research”

RISE — short for Research, Innovation & Scientific Excellence — will allow eligible participants to submit abstracts for independent scientific evaluation. Up to 20 submissions in each therapeutic area may be considered for research-development opportunities, while selected studies may receive further support based on scientific merit, clinical relevance and feasibility.

The programme was introduced during the company’s inaugural Clinical Research Day, which included representatives from the Ministry of Health Malaysia’s Clinical Research Centre (CRC) and Medical Research and Ethics Committee, as well as clinician-researchers from teaching institutions.

Sessions covered research design, ethics, approval processes, publication and industry-supported clinical studies.

“Clinical research may begin as simply as a question that arises from caring for patients every day,” said Dr Danny Wong, Managing Director of BREGO Life Sciences.

“Through RISE, we want to provide healthcare professionals with a clear pathway to develop their ideas, put them forward for scientific evaluation and, where selected, access the support to take their research further.”

A Malaysian study of specialists at three government hospitals found that although all respondents believed research benefited patients and society, only 44.9% were actively involved in research. Reported barriers included limited access to research expertise, software, statistical support and approval guidance.

Dr Tay Ju Fan, Manager of the CRC at Hospital Selayang, said: “Many healthcare professionals have good research ideas arising from their daily clinical practice. Creating the right environment for these ideas to be developed is an important part of strengthening Malaysia’s clinical research ecosystem.”

The 2026/2027 RISE submission cycle is expected to remain open until the end of January 2027.
