
Kota Kinabalu: A 30-year-old man charged with causing grievous hurt to his sister, will go trial on March 1 – 2, 2023.
Sessions Court Judge Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim set the date for Mohamad Firdaus Arbi who pleaded guilty to the charge against him on Friday when his case was brought up for the outcome from the Hospital Mesra in Bukit Padang.
The prosecution informed the court that the report from the Hospital Mesra in Bukit Padang was ready and it stated that Firdaus is fit to plea and stand trial.
Firdaus is accused of causing grievous hurt to Jumat Arbi, 51, with a knife at 6.30pm on March 8, this year at a house in Kg Pasir Putih, Putatan.
The offence under Section 326 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 20 years, and liable to a fine and whipping, on conviction.
Pending the date, Firdaus was further remanded.
Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Tham Pou Jin appeared for the prosecution while Firdaus was not represented.
Meanwhile, a 32-year-old man charged with raping an underage girl, will know his fate on Jan 31, 2023.
The court fixed the date for Rezuan Hamjah when the defence closed its case after calling one witness.
The court also ordered both parties to submit their submissions latest by Dec 22 this year.
Rezuan is accused of raping the 14-year-old girl at 11pm on Dec 30, 2020 at a room of a house in Kinarut, Papar.
He was charged under Section 375(g)/376(1) of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping on conviction.
The prosecution had called six witnesses during the hearing.
DPP Nur Faezah Jafry conducted for the prosecution while counsel Nabila Norsahar defended Rezuan.
