
Kota Kinabalu: A 41-year-old man was charged in the Magistrate’s Court with damaging the grill door handle of a house his ex-wife rented.
Arfizan Awang Din, who appeared before Magistrate Dzul Elmy on Friday, pleaded not guilty to committing mischief on March 24, this year, at 9.24pm, at a unit in Angkasa Apartment near here.
The charge under Section 427 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of between one and five years or a fine or both, on conviction.
Prosecuting Officer Inspector Mohamad Hamidi Mohamad Hamzah applied for a pre-trial case management (ptcm) and offered RM4,000 bail.
Counsel Carmen Khoo, representing Arfizan, requested a lower bail because he is a divorcee with three children, works as a general worker earning RM1,500 a month, and cares for his elderly mother.
Dzul Elmy fixed May 21 for ptcm and released the accused on RM1,700 bail in two sureties.
Meanwhile, an Indonesian man was charged with assaulting his fellow countryman with a butcher knife.
La Ode Dahaluja, 45, is accused of voluntarily causing hurt to Dika La Sabo, with the weapon, on March 29, at 8.08pm, at the Safma Market, here.
La Ode pleaded not guilty to the charge under Section 324 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to three years or a fine or whipping or with any two of such punishment, on conviction.
Hamidi offered no bail as the accused’s passport had expired.
The court set May 25 for ptcm and ordered the accused to be remanded further.
In the same court, a 49-year-old woman was fined RM60 or jailed one day for having unaccounted for goods.
Chong Lee Chu pleaded guilty to having a packet of 500gm of mung beans, medicated oil, a can of barley, a packet of lozenges and two packets of biscuits, for which she failed to explain how she obtained them.
Chong committed the offence on March 27, at 11am, at Foodtown Supermarket in Kolombong.
The charge is framed under Section 22(1) of the Minor Offences Ordinance, which provides for a fine of up to RM100 or up to three months in jail or both, on conviction.
Unrepresented, Chong requested leniency.
