
Kota Kinabalu: The Magistrate’s Court here jailed a man eight months for disposing of stolen cable.
Mohammad Shazri pleaded guilty before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin to committing the offence by disposing of one roll of stolen 2.5mm PVC Wire cable belonging to Alim Kasron on Dec 22, 2024, at 1.50am, in a house, Jalan Bantayan, Nountun, near here.
The charge under Section 414 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to seven years, or a fine or both, on conviction.
Mohammad was ordered to serve the sentence from the date of his arrest.
In another case, a man was fined RM100 or jailed seven days for failing to explain cash deposit of RM2,700 into his bank account, last year.
Nor Hamry Azam pleaded guilty before Magistrate Dzul Elmy Yunus to failing to provide a reasonable explanation as to how he obtained the money belonging to Zaika Arun, which had been deposited into the accused’s bank account.
The offence was committed on Nov 25, 2024 at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport here.
The charge is framed under Section 22A(1) of the Minor Offences Ordinance which provides for a fine of RM100 or up to three months’ jail or both, on conviction.
The prosecution informed the court that the complainant’s money was transferred into Nor’s bank account after falling victim to an online scam while trying to apply for a personal loan.
