Man fined for failing to produce MyKad to cops

Kota Kinabalu: An unemployed man was fined RM1,000 or two weeks jail for failing to produce his MyKad for inspection.

Effendy Ruaji, 51, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to committing the offence at 12.30am on Nov 7, this year, at Jalan Pelanduk, Luyang here.

The court was informed by the prosecution that Effendy was earlier detained by police on suspicion of theft and failed to produce his identification document when asked to do so.

Effendy was charged under Section 25(1)(n) of the National Registration Regulations 1990 which provides for a fine of up to RM20,000 or jail term of up to three years or both, on conviction.

In another case, a 48-year-old Indonesian man was charged with keeping stolen items.

Foreman Agus Gelang claimed trial to having five units of electric cables belonging to Pembinaan Azam Jaya Sdn Bhd at 5am on Oct 21 under the Rampayan flyover heading to Sulaman, near here.

The charge is framed under Section 411 of the Penal Code.

Counsel Lim Ming Zoong @ Lawrence, representing Agus, applied for lower bail as he is married with seven children and works as a foreman for the said company.

The court set Nov 28 for pre-trial case management and offered Agus bail of RM2,000 in two sureties provided that the bail is to be processed upon his passport being surrendered to court.
