
Kota Kinabalu: A man was fined RM3,000 or jailed six months by the Magistrate’s Court here for criminally threatening his housemate with a knife.
Alexandre Schroder, 27, pleaded guilty after the charge was read to him before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin.
Alexandre threatened a 40-year-old man by saying, “Come at me,” while holding a knife, with the intent to cause fear and intimidation to the victim.
The offence was committed on March 31 at around 1.30am, in a rented room in Kg Tanjung Aru, here.
Alexandre was charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code which provides for imprisonment of up to two years, or a fine, or both, on conviction.
If the threat involves intent to cause death or serious injury, the accused can be punished with imprisonment of up to seven years, or a fine, or both.
According to the case facts, the incident occurred when Alexandre suddenly knocked on the victim’s room door and accused him of stealing his gas cylinder.
Alexandre then took a knife from the kitchen and threatened, causing the victim to fear for his safety.
Alexandre was represented by a lawyer from the National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK), Lim Ming Zoong @ Lawrence, while the prosecution was conducted by Inspector Yusdi Basri.
