Kota Kinabalu: A 34-year-old woman was fined RM4,000 or jailed six months for obstructing a police officer from carrying out her duty.

Noor Fatimah Opau pleaded guilty before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin, to committing the offence against Inspector Mahani Abdul Malik Yap, at 11.35pm on Apr 5 this year at a unit in University Condo Apartment 1, Jalan Sulaman, here.

The charge under Section 186 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to two years or a fine of up to RM10,000 or both, on conviction.

In mitigation, Noor asked for leniency and told the court that she panicked at that time and did not know the police came.

She said she was filled with remorse.

The court heard that on the said day, Noor did not allow a police team to raid the house and detain her husband.

She also used her handphone to video the situation and provoked the police during the incident.

The police had warned her three times for not obstructing them from carrying out their duties but Noor had ignored the warning and pushed the officer.

In another case, a 23-year-old man was jailed six months for having housebreaking equipment without reasonable explanation.

Wan Muhammad Herwan committed the offences at 3.10am on Oct 22, 2024 at the Meng Keong Restoran in Inanam Capital, Inanam, here.
