Kota Kinabalu: A 41-year-old man was fined a total of RM20,000 or 60 days’ jail for allowing four illegal immigrants to be in the premises under his control.
Kamal Hazman Abu Bakar pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim, to the charge against him.
He was found permitting the four Filipinos, aged between 31 and 60, who did not have valid documents at 9.40am on Sept 27, 2022 at the Kuarters Integrasi of Hospital Ranau.
The charge stated that Kamal as Hasrat Mahir Sdn Bhd Director, was the person controlling the site.

The offence under Section 55E(1) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 which carries a jail term of up to a year, or a fine of between RM5,000 and RM30,000, or both, for each illegal immigrant involved.
The court heard that the Kamal’s company was appointed by the main contractor of the project to carry out works at the construction site of the hospital.
Investigation revealed that he allowed the illegal immigrants to be in the area which was under his control.
Prosecuting Officer Sopian Karate from the Immigration Department appeared for the prosecution.
