Kota Kinabalu: A 24-year-old man was jailed a total of three years and six months plus three strokes of the cane for cheating a man of RM39,700 and misusing someone else’s vehicle.
Mohd Hairul Roslie pleaded guilty before Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles to two counts against him on Friday.
On the first count, Hairul was sentenced to two years and four months’ jail and ordered to get two strokes of the cane for cheating Syahrul Izuan Mohd Sam by deceiving the later that he (Hairul) can help sell a car which resulted in Syahrul giving the money to Hairul.
The offence took place at 5.23pm on Jan 7, this year at Cyber City Phase 2, near here.
The offence under Section 420 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of between one and 10 years, and with whipping or fine, on conviction.
On the second count, he was jailed another 14 months and ordered to get a stroke of the cane for dishonestly misusing the vehicle belonging to Rabdunieh Jalil at the same place and time.
The court ordered Hairul to serve the jail sentences consecutively from the date of his arrest.
