TAWAU: A local man who allegedly went on a rampage, threatened to burn down his father’s house and acted aggressively towards his 84-year-old father in Kg Tanah Merah Tanjung Batu here was arrested by police at about 5.30pm on Monday.
Tawau district police chief ACP Rosdi Mat Jusoh said the arrest of the 45-year-old suspect was made after police received a report from his father regarding his son’s actions.
He said the victim also told police that about two days before the incident, the suspect had threatened to burn down the house and had frequently gone on a rampage, including damaging items inside the house.
“The victim and his wife, who are also senior citizens, subsequently lodged a police report as they were concerned that the suspect’s actions could endanger their safety,” he said.
“Background checks on the suspect found that he has four previous criminal records and had served sentences for drug abuse and housebreaking offences in Tawau and Klang, Selangor,” he said.
Rosdi said the suspect was being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation involving threats to cause injury, damage to property or harm to a person’s reputation.
