Man jailed, fined for stealing speaker and microphones

Kota Kinabalu: A 46-year-old man who steal a set of speaker and two units of microphone was jailed 12 months and fined RM2,000 or another four months.

Ramil Siuh pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to stealing the items valued at RM249 at 3.10pm on Sept 4 at Larry Enterprise in Centre Point Sabah Complex, here.

He committed the offence under Section 380 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to 10 years, and fine, on conviction.

The court heard that while the complainant was serving a customer, he heard something being put inside a bag.

Read more The complainant saw a man, later identified Ramil, holding a white paper bag and left the shop without making any payment.

When the complainant shouted “thief, thief”, Ramil stopped, put down the bag containing the speaker and microphones and said “Sorry, sorry, maaf maaf, aku suka menyanyi bah, itu sebab aku ambil” (I’m sorry, I like to sing and that was why I take it).

After that, Ramil tried to leave the shop but was detained by a security guard after being informed by the complainant.

CCTV footage at the shop showed Ramil taking the items without paying.

Ramil was subsequently handed over to the police.

In another case, a 33-year-old man was jailed 12 months for threatening to cause hurt to a woman who out of fear gave him RM10.

Azmahal Buhari admitted to committing the offence against Jamila Gunnong, at 11pm on Sept 4 at Kg Lok Urai, Pulau Gaya, here.

Investigation revealed that Azmahal had threatened to cause injury to Jamila if she refused to give him money.

Worrying about her safety, Jamila then gave RM10 to Azmahal who always asked money from her and he would always sell items from the house to get money.
