Kota Kinabalu: A self-employed man was jailed 10 months by the Magistrate’s Court on Friday for having a stolen motorcycle two years ago.

Tommy Joibi, 36, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to having the stolen Yamaha motorcycle belonging to Alwee Noordin at 5pm on April 14, 2021 in front of a shop, at Mile 10, Manggatal.

The court heard from the prosecution that the machine was reported stolen from a house at UCA 2, Manggatal on March 28, 2021.

Tommy was arrested by police on April 14, 2021 where the stolen motorcycle was found in his possession.

Read more He was charged under Section 411 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of between six months and five years and liability of a fine, on conviction.

Unrepresented, Tommy applied for a lenient sentence.

The prosecution informed the court that Tommy had two conviction records and applied for an adequate sentence.

In another case, a wiring man was charged with threatening to kill a man with a machete.

Pong Su Thsung, 62, pleaded not guilty to committing the offence to Mario Suibol at 8am on Sept 2, this year at Taman Kendara near here.

The charge under Section 506 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to seven years or fine or both, on conviction.

The court fixed Oct 9 for pre-trial case management and released Pong on a bail of RM1,000 in one surety.

Meanwhile, an unemployed man was charged with similar offence.

Mohammad Shahfizan, 22, claimed trial to criminally intimidating Adam Jibra with a butcher knife at 8pm on Aug 31 in a house at Kg Lok Kurai, Pulau Gaya.

He was released on a bail of RM1,500 in two sureties pending pre-trial case management on Sept 19.
