The body of a man who went missing after falling into a dam in Perak has been recovered six days later, following suspected cable theft activities.

IPOH: The body of a man who went missing after falling into the Sultan Azlan Shah Dam six days ago has been recovered.

The 32-year-old victim was found floating approximately 300 metres from the spot where he was believed to have fallen.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department Assistant Director of Operations Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the department received a call regarding the discovery at 11.22 am.

A team from the Tambun Fire and Rescue Station was dispatched immediately to conduct the recovery operation.

“The victim’s body was successfully brought to land and handed over to the police for further action,” he said in a statement.

Ipoh District Police Chief ACP Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad had earlier said the man was suspected of being involved in cable theft activities with a friend at a Tenaga Nasional Berhad substation at the dam.

The Tanjung Rambutan Police Station received information regarding a cable theft incident in the area at approximately 12.40 am on the day of the incident.

The drowning victim is believed to have been involved in the theft with another man who was rescued after being trapped on the dam’s embankment.

That individual has since been detained for further investigation.
