
ALOR SETAR - A man suffered 70 per cent burns on his body while trying to extinguish a fire that broke out in his house in Kampung Padang Perahu, near Jitra, yesterday.
A spokesman of the Kedah Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Control Centre said the department received a report regarding the incident at 6.32 pm and a team was dispatched to the location approximately 12 minutes later.
"A 12-member team from the Jitra Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) was deployed to the scene. The blaze involved a two-storey Class B house. The fire is estimated to have destroyed about 60 per cent of the premises.
"There was an adult man (age not specified), the homeowner, who suffered burns on his body while trying to extinguish the fire. The victim was given initial treatment at the scene before being taken to the Jitra Hospital for further treatment," he said in the statement. - BERNAMA
