ALOR SETAR - A man suffered burns to his face, hands and legs after he was caught in a flash fire while cleaning a boat at the Sungai Itau fisherman's jetty in Langkawi on Wednesday.

Langkawi Police Chief ACP Khairul Azhar Nuruddin said in the 7.20pm incident, the 35-year-old victim was cleaning the vessel when sparks erupted from the battery and boat pump.

"The fire immediately spread to the victim who was inside the boat. At 7.45pm, a nearby friend of the victim heard an explosion-like sound and hurried to the scene.

"Upon arrival, the friend found the victim with burns to his face, hands, and legs,” he said in a statement on Thursday.

Khairul Azhar added that the victim was rushed to the Sultanah Maliha Hospital in Langkawi by his friend for treatment. - BERNAMA
