Manslaughter charge after man dies following dog attack

  • Lee Ellis, 55, has been charged with manslaughter and owning a dog dangerously out of control following a fatal incident in Wakefield.
  • A 55-year-old man died in hospital after an altercation involving a German Shepherd on an old railway footpath on Saturday.
  • West Yorkshire Police confirmed the German Shepherd was seized and remains held in police kennels.
  • Ellis, of Blacker Lane, Wakefield, was remanded into custody ahead of an appearance at Leeds Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.
  • Specially trained officers are providing support to the family of the victim.
