Man killed in dog attack after ‘right of way’ dispute named

  • Lee Ellis, 55, has appeared at Bradford Magistrates’ Court charged with manslaughter after his German Shepherd fatally bit a man in Wakefield.
  • The victim, 55-year-old James Judge, died in hospital following an altercation regarding a "right of way" on a local footpath on Saturday, the court was told.
  • Prosecutors told the court that a dog bite to the back of Mr Judge's right knee significantly contributed to his death.
  • Ellis, who was also charged with being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control causing death, intends to take the case to trial.
  • District Judge Mark Daley granted Ellis bail ahead of his next appearance at Leeds Crown Court on 16 September, while the dog remains seized in police kennels.
