MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. vowed that no teacher should be left to retire in entry-level positions after decades of service.
Speaking at the mass oath-taking ceremony of newly promoted and newly hired teachers in Santiago City, Isabela, on Friday, Marcos explained that it used to take over 10 to 20 years before a teacher gets promoted.
"In the past, if you started as a Teacher I, it would take ten to twenty years before you could reach the rank of Teacher III... That is why I made a promise to our teachers: we will no longer allow any teacher to retire as a Teacher I," said Marcos in Filipino, vowing continued government support for teachers.
