MANILA, Philippines —The Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (BAYAN) said the investigation of the flood control scandal should include President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., accusing him of being the “mastermind of corruption.”
In an interview after the Martial law declaration anniversary protest in Manila, BAYAN Secretary General Mong Palatino said the investigation of the flood control scandal should not stop with the arrest of former House Speaker Martin Romualdez, and that Marcos should also be investigated.
“We are here to demand accountability from the mastermind of corruption, Marcos Jr.,” he said.
He added that the protest serves as a reminder for the people that the allocation of funds used in the flood control scandal was enabled by what he calls the “authoritarian control of Marcos Jr.”
He accused that other branches of the government deliberately avoided holding Marcos accountable in the flood control scandal after Congress dismissed the president’s impeachment.
