MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered an investigation into the latest school shooting in South Cotabato.
This incident at Banga National High School left at least 6 dead and several others injured, and marked the third deadly school shooting that happened in the country this year, following those in Tacloban and Zamboanga.
In a statement late Friday, Marcos expressed his grief for the bereaved families, stressing that school violence must never become an accepted reality for Filipino children.
"I extend my condolences to the families who lost loved ones in the shooting at Banga National High School in South Cotabato,” he said in Filipino.
“We are ensuring that those who were injured receive the medical treatment and assistance they need,” he added.
Marcos directed authorities to look into how the minor managed to secure a weapon and bypass campus security.
