PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is set to welcome President Karol Nawrocki of Poland in a scheduled state visit from Oct. 5 to 8 — the first-ever state visit from a Polish leader to the Philippines.
”The visit builds on recent progress in bilateral relations, following the inaugural meeting of the Philippines-Poland Joint Defense Cooperation Committee in Warsaw in July 2026 and the 7th Philippines-Poland Political Consultations in Manila in September 2026,” the Presidential Communications Office said in a statement on Friday.
The meeting’s agenda, it added, includes defense and security, trade and investment, agriculture, science and technology, information and communications technology, legal cooperation, tourism and people-to-people exchanges.
Formal diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Poland were established on Sept. 22, 1973.
Over the past decade, ties were revitalized and supported by a growing economic partnership. In 2025, Poland ranked as the Philippines’ 28th-largest trading partner. It currently hosts an estimated 25,000 Filipinos.
The diplomatic momentum followed Poland’s recent accession to the Asean Treaty of Amity and Cooperation.
Poland, alongside Lithuania, Romania and Sweden, acceded to the treaty during the 50th-anniversary commemorative activities in Manila in July under the Philippines’ chairmanship of Asean.
