SABAH must stabilise its political scene before it can follow Sarawak’s model of governance, according to Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun, the incumbent Member of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly (DUN) for Karanaan.

Masidi argued that the most effective way to achieve political stability in the state is by granting a renewed mandate to the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) administration in the 17th Sabah State Election (PRU DUN Sabah).

“Since 1963 Sarawak has been governed by the same party, albeit under different names. That is the reason for their political stability.

“Imagine, Sarawak has had only six Chief Ministers, or now called Premiers, whereas Sabah is now on its 16th with caretaker Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

“From this alone, we can see the political turbulence in Sabah through our different history. Our political evolution differs from Sarawak and we cannot compare ourselves with them because they are stable,” he said.

He added that Sarawak’s political stability has enabled the state to progress efficiently, without wasting time and energy on disputes and attempts to topple the government.

Masidi highlighted that over the past five years, the GRS administration has demonstrated its capacity to maintain political stability in Sabah, a momentum that should be sustained.

He made the remarks while officiating the Ranau branch of the Persatuan Pesara Pegawai Perkhidmatan Pendidikan Sabah (5PMDC) Friendly Gathering at Lohan Rest House today.

In his speech, he also outlined GRS’s accomplishments in boosting Sabah’s economy and improving infrastructure in the district, including roads, clean water supply, and electricity provision.

He congratulated the organisers for successfully executing a programme that was meaningful for all participants.

Masidi’s presence was warmly received, providing an opportunity for attendees to reconnect with friends and peers.

The Ranau branch of 5PMDC is an active association dedicated to the welfare of retired educators. The group also engages in community programmes, including social initiatives, educational activities, clean-ups, and volunteer work.

Masidi noted that age is no barrier to leadership and service, with such associations offering inspiration to younger generations and the wider Ranau community.

The initiative aligns with the #KITAORANGRANAU vision, showcasing the quality and spirit of Ranau’s residents. - November 13, 2025
