Prime Video is bringing Masters of the Universe back to screens with a live-action adaptation directed by Travis Knight, premiering globally on 22 July.
The film stars Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Adam, who returns to the planet Eternia after spending 15 years away. Guided by the Sword of Power, he discovers his homeland under the control of Skeletor, played by Jared Leto. To reclaim the kingdom and protect those closest to him, Adam must embrace his destiny as He-Man.
Joining Galitzine is Camila Mendes as Teela and Idris Elba as Duncan, also known as Man-At-Arms. The cast also includes Alison Brie, James Purefoy, Morena Baccarin, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson and Charlotte Riley, with Kristen Wiig voicing Roboto.
Based on the long-running franchise, the film revisits the battle between He-Man and Skeletor while introducing a new generation to the fantasy world of Eternia through a large-scale live-action production.
Away from the screen, the production also incorporated several sustainability initiatives during filming in England. Electric vehicles supplied by Mercedes were used to transport much of the cast and production team between locations, supported by on-site EV charging infrastructure.
The production also trialled hydrogen power units from GeoPura to supply electricity for the basecamp and charging stations. The system generates power with water as its only exhaust emission while operating with minimal noise, reducing the production’s reliance on conventional generators.
Masters of the Universe begins streaming globally on Prime Video from Wednesday, 22 July.
